Exile Lifestyle

Colin Wright

I’ve written a bunch of books, produce a travelogue, write news analyses, and have a free newsletter. I also co-founded a publishing company called Asymmetrical Press.

Everything that I do is guided by a set of philosophies

that I’ve developed over the years and continue to develop as I travel and learn more about the world and the people living in it. I find it difficult to use too many labels for what I believe because none are quite right and come with unintended baggage, but here are some concepts that I associate closely with, if not perfectly.

Minimalism. At its core, Minimalism means removing from your life the stuff and relationships and activities that don’t add value so that you have more time, energy, and resources to spend on things, people, and activities that do.

For me, this means getting rid of most physical possessions so that the ones I have left are ideal for my lifestyle. This allows me to focus entirely on traveling, learning, living, loving, seeking out new experiences, and really enjoying the hell out of the time I’ve got to work with.

I asked Colin a few questions:

How “exactly” do your make money to “fund” your lifestyle/travels?

Publishing is the biggest source of revenue for me, these days. Between my books and publishing projects (like Exiles), I make enough to fund my lifestyle, and a little more besides. It’s taken some time to get to this point, and in the past I’ve done a lot of other things for a living, but this fits best with what I want to do (write and travel).

I don’t think I’d change a single thing, actually. I’m having a blast 🙂

What does success mean to you ?

Success, to me, means having the freedom to do what I want, when I want, for any reason or no reason at all.

What makes you happy the most ?

New experiences, new knowledge, meeting new people, and understanding new things.
